Thomas (Tamás) Lovasz is a Hungarian-American cellist and teacher based in Los Angeles. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from the University of Pécs in Hungary and his Master of Music in Cello Performance, with distinction, from California State University, Northridge.
An active soloist, orchestral, and chamber musician, Thomas has had the privilege of performing with renowned artists such as John Williams, Zoltán Kocsis, Lynn Harrell, Kristóf Baráti and István Várdai in Hungary, the United States, Germany, and Italy. Currently, he is a member of chamber ensembles including the Plaża String Quartet and the Santa Barbara String Quartet. Thomas also performs with multiple orchestras, such as Orchestra Santa Monica and Chamber Orchestra of the South Bay, and regularly appears as a soloist with the Vietnamese American Philharmonic Orchestra.
In addition to performing, Thomas is passionate about teaching students of all ages and skill levels. He began teaching in 2011 at his alma mater, the Ferenc Liszt School of Music in Hungary, and has since taught at numerous music schools. Currently, he serves as a chamber music and cello instructor at Los Angeles Pierce College, the elementary strings director at Village Christian School, and a cello coach at Sierra Canyon School. Additionally, he is a teaching artist at Harmony Project Pasadena, where he leads cello group classes and conducts the intermediate orchestra ensemble. Alongside his school teaching commitments, Thomas maintains a private cello studio in Monrovia, California.
